Synthesizers

Modular Synths are fun! I build Eurorack.

Originally inspired by “Look Mum, No Computer!” It’s a hobby that programmers enjoy to step away from the screen and keyboard while keeping the analytical/technical experience of creating new stuff.

Full database listing here.

Modules:

AD/AR is a small envelope generator, designed to be inexpensive, it’s used in all my patches. This version is SMT.

BBH is a breadboard helper, non-musical utility for electronics development.

Blank4 is a 4HP white panel. Also available in 6HP. Not worth making an informational page about.

Clock is a master tempo and divider. I often needed odd divisions so built in 3x and 5x counters and an on-off switch and dual tempo knobs makes a friendly master clock.

CMP is a threshold/gate comparator. Performs a logic operation A>B=C, so you can turn saws into squares or LFOs into gate sequences. Pairs with the TM2 to make random patterns.

Crimps is a clone of the discontinued Mutable’s Kinks, redrawn in larger component sizes so a human can assemble it. Same front panel, similar schematics open source, new PCBs.

Controller – DCCV is a hand-held control voltage generator for driving your synth from a few feet away, fun!

Controller – DCCF is the controller board reworked as six faders. Six channels of CV control on long-throw faders.

Dual Delay is an effects unit, because running two delays in series or in parallel creates so many fun sounds. You can organically make rhythms by putting one snappy sound into two different delay rates, and crossfade the results. Skiff-friendly SMT.

Mult is just a passive set of sockets to do cable-splitting. A passive mult is good for organizing your patch or as an expander next to a commonly used module like the Clock.

Mixer is a four in one out mixer in 6HP. Basic utility everybody needs at least one.

Noise is a white-noise generator, with red/blue filtered outs, and a random trigger source. Important for snare drums.

Saws is a sound source, a VCO just drones in sawtooth. Like the Chainsaw, it’s good for compact generation of really fat sounds. Unlike the Chainsaw, it’s all analogue and THT. Also available as SMT.

Shady is an attenuverter, offset generator, mixer and CV source. Open Source Clone from Mutable Shades.

spVCF is a voltage controlled filter, in the Steiner-Parker topology with some additional features.

TM2 is a sequencer, based loosely on the Turing Machine, giving semi-controllable-random voltage sequences. This one has a toggle switch to a fixed script, so you can jam semi-random arpeggios.

Tube is a voltage controlled amplifier with waveshaping and folding capabilities. Good for morphing your soft tones into screeching riffs.

uVCO is a voltage controlled oscillator with all the basic utility features, sync, fm, four simultaneous outputs. Temperature compensation with many possible circuits to make it buildable!

VCA is a dual voltage controlled amplifier with switchable response curves and two CV inputs per channel. Recent versions of the VCA are available with all SMT parts pre-soldered at the factory, so this kit is just knobs and jacks: super quick.

Others are not ready for production, but I hope to release a MIDI interface and a rhythm generator. These aren’t always exciting new ideas, but I want to have a complete lineup for eurorack modular, and they are always unique.
